us special

How Running for Cake was born.

Hi, I’m Michelle!
There are two main things you need to know about me – I LOVE cake and I LOVE running. Thankfully the two can occasionally go hand-in-hand!
I have been running since trying to avoid studying for my matric exams back in ’09. I’ve been encouraging those around me to do the same for nearly 4 years.
I was the leader of Catch Me If You Can Bryanston for 3 and a half years, where I have watched 4 ladies become 290 ladies in this short amount of time.
Being the leader of CMIYC Bryanston has been one of the most rewarding parts of my life. I have seen ladies go from kilometre to kilometre, from 5kms to 42kms. I have encouraged people to get out there onto the road, whether they may have experienced some unfortunate event on the road due to safety (or the lack thereof in SA) or due to a lack of motivation.
With this in mind, I decided to launch my very first Couch to 5km group running program in January 2020, and needless to say, it was exceptionally welcomed by the community in Bryanston, and it fuelled my passion for this hobby of mine even more.
Onwards and upwards, they say, and indeed I have done just this. I have since expanded to numerous suburbs in Johannesburg and I have added a further 2 programs to the mix.
I am so excited for you to be joining me on this journey, because trust me, I’m just getting started! 🙂

​The Couch to 5K with Michelle was the only program that has actually worked for me. From the short strength training and constant to well thought out training program, as well as the having supportive and knowledgeable leader and camaraderie of the team, it was everything I needed to overcome my fear for cardio and ‘just not being a runner’.  We took it one day at a time and I was amazed at my own body’s progress evident from week to week.
